About this product
The CT3083, listed alongside the MOC3083 designation, is a zero-crossing triac driver optocoupler in a 6-pin SMD package. An internal LED optically triggers the triac driver output, isolating a low-voltage microcontroller from the AC circuit it controls. It is used to switch a triac for AC loads, with triggering timed near the voltage zero-crossing to reduce electrical noise.

Frequently asked questions
Can this optocoupler switch mains AC directly?
No. It is a triac driver, so it drives the gate of an external triac, and the triac switches the AC load. Follow the datasheet for the gate and snubber components.
How should I drive the LED side from a microcontroller?
Use a series resistor on the LED side, sized from the supply voltage, the 1.3 V LED forward voltage and the LED current chosen from the datasheet. Keep the LED current within the limits given there.
