MCP2515 is a stand-alone CAN controller from Microchip that adds CAN bus support to any microcontroller over a simple SPI interface. It supports one-shot transmission, data-byte filtering and a Start-of-Frame output, and is pin- and function-compatible with the MCP2510. It requires an external CAN transceiver to connect to the physical bus.
