Frequently asked questions
How do I cascade several SN74LS164 devices?
Connect the Q7 output of one device to a serial input of the next, and share the clock and clear lines across all devices. This gives you longer parallel outputs using the same three control pins.
Do I need to use the clear pin?
The clear input is active low and resets all outputs to low when pulled low. If you do not need it, tie it high so it does not interfere with operation.
