About this product
The SN74HC138 is a CMOS 3-to-8 line inverting decoder/demultiplexer that activates one of eight active-low outputs based on three binary inputs. Two active-low and one active-high enable inputs make expansion easy, and it is commonly used for memory chip select and device addressing.

Frequently asked questions
How do I expand it to a 4-to-16 decoder?
Use the fourth address bit to drive the active-low enable of one SN74HC138 and its inverse to drive the enable of a second one. Two devices then cover 16 outputs.
What enable conditions activate the outputs?
G1 must be high and both G2A and G2B must be low. When these conditions are met, the output selected by the address lines goes low.
