How do I enable the 74HC138?
It has three enable inputs. Two of them (E1 and E2) are active-low and one (E3) is active-high. All three must be in their active state for the chip to decode; otherwise all outputs stay high.
How do I select which output is active?
Apply a 3-bit binary value to the address inputs A0, A1 and A2. The value selects one of the outputs Y0 to Y7, and that output goes low while the rest stay high.
