About this product
The MAX3232 is a dual RS-232 driver and receiver IC that converts TTL/CMOS logic levels to RS-232 voltage levels and back. It operates from 3V to 5.5V, so it works with both 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers, at data rates up to 120 kbit/s. It is commonly used to connect microcontroller UART pins to legacy serial ports and DB9 connectors.

Frequently asked questions
Does the MAX3232 need external components?
Yes. It uses an internal charge pump that requires four external capacitors, typically 0.1 µF, connected between C1+/C1-, C2+/C2-, V+ and V-.
How do I connect it to a microcontroller UART?
Connect the TTL-side inputs to the microcontroller TX pin and the TTL-side outputs to its RX pin. On the RS-232 side, connect to the TX and RX lines of the serial connector, share the ground, and swap TX/RX lines as needed for your device type.
