Frequently asked questions
Does it need an external crystal?
Yes. Connect a 32.768 kHz crystal to the oscillator pins. The IC integrates the 12.5 pF load capacitance, so external load capacitors are not needed for the crystal.
Can it run on a 3.3 V system?
Yes. The clock operates from 2.0 V to 5.5 V, so it works on both 3.3 V and 5 V systems. For battery backup, connect a suitable cell as described in the datasheet.
