About this product
A two-channel Hall effect quadrature encoder that senses a magnetic disk on the rear protrusion of a DC motor shaft. It outputs square-wave channels A and B, about 90° out of phase, so the transition rate gives motor speed and the transition order gives direction. It is a practical choice for speed and direction feedback in DC motor projects.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get speed and direction from the A and B outputs?
Count the transitions on channels A and B. The frequency of transitions gives the motor speed, and the order in which A and B change gives the direction of rotation.
What supply voltage should I use with this encoder?
The Hall sensor needs 3.3 V to 5 V and draws up to 10 mA. Make sure your microcontroller input can read the output high level, which goes up to Vcc.
