About this product
The CD4532 is a CMOS 8-to-3 priority encoder supplied in a 16-pin DIP package. It takes eight inputs, with D7 as the highest priority and D0 as the lowest, and outputs the highest-priority active input as a 3-bit binary code. Enable pins allow several stages to be cascaded for more inputs.

Frequently asked questions
Can several CD4532 be cascaded for more than 8 inputs?
Yes. Connect the EO output of a higher-priority stage to the EI input of the next lower-priority stage. EO is high when no priority inputs are present, and GS indicates that a priority input is active.
What should I do with unused inputs?
Tie unused inputs to a defined logic level, normally low, rather than leaving them floating. Floating CMOS inputs can cause erratic behavior and extra current draw.
