About this product
A breakout module built around the Allegro A4988 DMOS microstepping driver IC, used to control bipolar stepper motors with just STEP and DIR logic pins. It supports full, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth step modes, and an onboard trimmer potentiometer sets the motor current limit. A pre-installed heatsink helps dissipate heat, and the module is commonly used with Arduino and similar controllers.

Frequently asked questions
How do I set the motor current limit?
Turn the trimmer potentiometer while measuring the reference voltage with a multimeter, and set it using the formula in the A4988 datasheet for your sense resistor value. Keep the current at or below your motor's rated current.
How is the driver wired to a stepper motor and controller?
Connect VMOT and GND to the motor power supply, the four motor coil wires to the 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B outputs, and STEP and DIR from the controller to the logic side. Power the logic side at 3.3V or 5V, and never connect or disconnect the motor while the driver is powered.
