How do I wire the input and output of the 6N137M?
Connect the logic signal to the anode (pin 2) through a current-limiting resistor, around 330 Ω for 5 V logic, and tie the cathode (pin 3) to ground. The output is pin 6, which needs a pull-up resistor (commonly 330 Ω to 1 kΩ) to Vcc on pin 8. Ground is pin 5.
What does the enable pin do?
Pin 7 is the enable input. It has an internal pull-up, so the output is enabled by default when the pin is left open or high. Pulling it low disables the output. Place a 0.1 µF decoupling capacitor close to Vcc on pin 8.
