How do I wire a Zener diode for voltage regulation?
Connect a series resistor from the supply to the cathode, and connect the anode to ground. The cathode is marked by the black band. The Zener then operates in reverse breakdown and holds the output near 22 V. Size the series resistor so the Zener current stays within its 500 mW rating.
