About this product
1N4732A is a 1 W silicon Zener diode with a nominal Zener voltage of 4.7 V and ±5% tolerance, indicated by the A suffix. It is used for voltage reference, simple voltage regulation and overvoltage clamping in common electronics circuits. It comes in an axial DO-41 package for through-hole mounting.

Frequently asked questions
How do I use a Zener diode for voltage regulation?
Connect it in reverse bias: the cathode (banded end) to the positive rail and the anode to ground, with a series resistor between the supply and the Zener. The Zener holds the voltage close to its rated value while the resistor limits the current.
How do I identify the cathode?
The cathode is the end marked with a band on the diode body. If the diode is connected the wrong way round, it will act as a normal forward diode with a drop of roughly 0.7 V instead of regulating the voltage.
