About this product
TLP521-4 is a four-channel photocoupler in a 16-pin SMD package. Each channel pairs an infrared LED with a phototransistor to isolate signals electrically. It is used to separate control circuits from higher-voltage or noisy sections, such as interfacing a microcontroller with relays or power stages. The listed isolation voltage is 2500 VRMS.

Frequently asked questions
How do I drive the input LED?
Feed the input LED through a series resistor from your logic output, keeping the forward current within the 50 mA rating and preferably well below it for reliability. The output side needs a pull-up resistor on the collector to produce a logic signal.
What are the output-side limits?
The collector-emitter voltage is rated at 55V and the collector current at 50 mA, so the output side must stay within these limits. Use the pull-up resistor to set the output logic level relative to your receiving circuit, and check the datasheet for current transfer ratio.
