Frequently asked questions
Does it work on its own, or does it need a CAN controller?
It is only the transceiver. It must be connected to a CAN protocol controller, which can be built into a microcontroller or provided by an external chip such as an MCP2515 with SPI.
Does a CAN bus built with it need termination?
Yes. A CAN bus is normally terminated with a 120 ohm resistor at each of its two physical ends, which is standard practice for CAN networks and keeps the signal reflections under control.
