How do I wire the RC522 to an Arduino Uno?
Power the module from the 3.3V pin, not 5V. Connect MOSI to D11, MISO to D12, SCK to D13, SDA (SS) to D10 and RST to D9, and connect GND to GND. Use the SPI library together with an RFID library such as MFRC522.
Do Mifare Classic cards need a key to be read or written?
Yes. Mifare Classic cards store data in sectors protected by Key A and Key B. The module can read or write a sector only after authenticating with the correct key for that sector.
