How do I wire a common-cathode RGB LED?
Connect the common pin to ground or the negative rail, and connect each colour pin (R, G, B) through its own current-limiting resistor to a microcontroller output or supply. Identify the common pin from the datasheet or with a multimeter diode test.
Why do the colours need different resistors?
Each colour has a different forward voltage (about 2.0 V red, 3.2 V green, 3.1 V blue). With a 5 V supply at 20 mA, the calculation R = (5 − Vf) ÷ 0.02 gives roughly 150 Ω for red and about 90–100 Ω for green and blue.
