How do I wire the output?
The output is open-collector, so it needs a pull-up resistor to the output-side supply. The datasheet gives a typical value, for example around 350 Ω at 5 V.
Does the input side need a resistor?
Yes. The input LED needs a series current-limiting resistor. Check the datasheet for the recommended forward current and calculate the resistor from your supply voltage.
