Frequently asked questions
How do I wire the MAX3078EASA to an MCU and the RS-485 bus?
Connect the driver input (DI) and receiver output (RO) to the MCU's UART TX and RX pins. Tie the driver enable (DE) and receiver enable (RE) pins together and drive them from one MCU GPIO to switch between transmit and receive. Connect A and B to the bus differential lines, and confirm the pinout in the datasheet.
Does this 3.3V transceiver work with a 5V microcontroller?
The logic pins are designed for 3.3V operation, so a 5V MCU should use a level shifter or a 3.3V-compatible interface on the logic side. The A and B bus lines are differential and are not level-shifted. Add termination resistors at the ends of long cables to reduce reflections.
