About this product
The L7805C2T is a three-terminal positive linear voltage regulator in a TO-263 (D2PAK) surface-mount package, giving a fixed 5 V output of up to 1 A. It is used to power 5 V logic, microcontrollers and sensors from a higher unregulated DC supply. Built-in current limiting, thermal shutdown and safe-operating-area protection help it withstand overloads.

Frequently asked questions
What input voltage does the L7805C2T need?
The input must be at least about 2 V above the 5 V output to keep regulation, so 7 V to 35 V is the usual working range. Keep the input below the maximum rating to avoid damage.
Does it need external capacitors?
Yes. The datasheet recommends a input capacitor of about 0.33 µF placed close to the input pin and an output capacitor of about 0.1 µF for stability. Larger output capacitors are common in practice to improve transient response.
