About this product
The L297 is a stepper motor controller IC that generates the four phase drive signals for two-phase bipolar and four-phase unipolar step motors. It supports half-step, normal and wave drive modes, with on-chip PWM chopper control of winding current. It is typically paired with a power bridge such as the L298N or L293E, and needs only clock, direction and mode inputs from the microcontroller.

Frequently asked questions
Can I connect a stepper motor directly to the L297 outputs?
No. The L297 outputs are logic-level phase signals. They are meant to drive a power bridge such as the L298N or L293E, which switches the motor winding current.
What must the microcontroller send to the L297?
Only a clock (step) signal, a direction input and a mode input. The four phase sequences are generated inside the IC, which reduces the software load on the microcontroller.
