How do I make it count up or down?
Apply clock pulses to CPU (pin 5) to count up, or to CPD (pin 4) to count down. Hold the clock input you are not using high. Master reset (MR, pin 14) clears the counter.
How do I load a starting value?
Set the data inputs D0 to D3 (pins 15, 1, 10 and 9) to the value you want, then pull PL (pin 11) low to load it. The load is asynchronous, so the counter takes the preset immediately.
