Is this board suitable for a 6S pack only?
Yes, it is rated for a 6-cell series pack. Using it with a different cell count will not match its voltage rating, so choose a BMS that matches your pack's series count.
Does it need balance wires?
Usually yes. A BMS uses balance leads from each cell junction to monitor cell voltages. Wire them according to the board diagram and confirm the cell count before powering up.
