About this product
A 10 A, 600 V bidirectional triac from STMicroelectronics in a TO-220 package, used to switch AC loads with a low-power gate signal. It is suited to lamp dimmers, fan speed control and heater switching. Use a gate drive with isolation for mains circuits.

Frequently asked questions
Can I switch a 220 V mains load with the BTA10 from a microcontroller?
Only through proper isolation. Drive the gate through an optocoupler such as MOC3021 or MOC3041 with a gate resistor, and never connect the microcontroller directly to mains.
Does the BTA10 need a snubber?
For inductive loads such as motors, transformers and solenoids, a snubber RC network across the triac helps prevent voltage spikes. Purely resistive loads like heaters typically do not need one.
