About this product
A 12 A, 600 V bidirectional triac from NXP in a TO-220 package, used to switch AC loads with a gate trigger pulse. It is suited to lamp dimmers, fan speed control and heater switching on mains circuits. Add a snubber for inductive loads.

Frequently asked questions
How should the gate be driven safely?
Drive the gate through an isolated circuit such as an optocoupler (MOC3021 or MOC3041) with a series gate resistor, referenced to MT1. Keep the microcontroller and its power supply isolated from the mains side.
What current rating should I choose?
Choose a triac whose RMS on-state current rating is above the maximum current of your load, with a margin. A 12 A triac suits loads up to a few kilowatts on 220 V, but check the derating and heatsink requirements for your application.
