About this product
An 8 A, 600 V bidirectional triac from NXP in a TO-220 package, used to switch AC loads with a gate trigger pulse. It is suited to small lamp dimmers, fan control and low-power AC heater switching. Add a snubber when switching inductive loads.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the BT137 as a relay replacement for a mains heater?
It can switch a resistive heater if the load current is within its 8 A rating and the gate is driven through proper isolation. Note that a triac has no galvanic isolation when off, so disconnect the load before servicing.
Is a snubber needed for a fan or small motor?
Yes, usually. Motors and fan windings are inductive, so an RC snubber across the triac helps limit voltage spikes and improves reliability.
