About this product
The BT134 is a 4A, 600V triac in a SOT82 plastic package. A triac is a bidirectional thyristor that conducts in both directions of an AC waveform once it is triggered at its gate, so it is commonly used to switch AC loads such as lamps, fans and heaters in low-to-medium power control circuits.

Frequently asked questions
Can the BT134 switch DC loads?
It is designed for AC switching. Once latched it stays on until the current falls below its holding level, which happens naturally near each AC zero crossing. It is not a suitable on/off switch for DC loads without additional circuitry.
How should I trigger the BT134 from a microcontroller?
Use an opto-isolated triac driver such as an MOC3021-type device with a suitable series resistor on the gate, and keep mains-voltage wiring fully isolated from the low-voltage microcontroller side. Check the pinout (MT1, MT2, Gate) in the datasheet before wiring, and never work on live mains.
