About this product

The TIP131 is an NPN Darlington power transistor rated 80 V and 8 A in a TO-220 package. Its high current gain lets a small microcontroller output drive loads such as relays, solenoids, lamps and small DC motors. Use a flyback diode across inductive loads and a heatsink for high-current operation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of TIP131 NPN Darlington Power Transistor, 80 V, 8 A, TO-220 in Egypt?

TIP131 NPN Darlington Power Transistor, 80 V, 8 A, TO-220 currently costs 10.9 EGP in Egypt.

Where can I buy TIP131 NPN Darlington Power Transistor, 80 V, 8 A, TO-220 in Egypt?

TIP131 NPN Darlington Power Transistor, 80 V, 8 A, TO-220 is available from Most Electronics. Compare the offers above to find the best price.

Can an Arduino pin drive a TIP131 directly?

Connect the Arduino pin to the base through a resistor (about 1 kΩ is a common starting point), connect the emitter to ground, and place the load between the supply and the collector. Do not drive heavy loads from the Arduino pin itself, since a single pin is limited to about 40 mA.

Do I need a protection diode when switching a relay or motor with the TIP131?

Yes. Relays, solenoids and motors are inductive, so connect a flyback diode such as 1N4007 across the load with its cathode toward the positive supply. This protects the transistor from the voltage spike when the load switches off.
