About this product
The TCST2103 is a U-shaped slotted optical interrupter with an infrared emitter and a phototransistor output, and a 3.1mm sensing gap. It detects when an object enters the slot, which makes it useful for wheel encoders, end-stop switches on CNC machines and position detection in moving parts.

Frequently asked questions
How do I wire the TCST2103?
The emitter LED needs a series current-limiting resistor from the supply. The phototransistor output is typically pulled up with a resistor to the microcontroller input. Verify the values against the Vishay datasheet.
Can it detect transparent objects?
It detects objects that block the infrared beam in the slot. Transparent or thin materials may not block it reliably, so test with your target object.
