Frequently asked questions
Is it a drop-in replacement for the SN74LS158?
The logic function is the same, but the HC family is CMOS with a 2 V to 6 V supply range and different input and output levels from LS-TTL. Check the levels before substituting it in an LS-based design.
What should I do with unused inputs?
Tie unused CMOS inputs to VCC or GND. Leaving them floating can cause excess current draw and unpredictable outputs.
