About this product
A fixed 12 V positive voltage regulator from the 78M series in the TO-252 (DPAK) surface-mount package. It produces a 12 V rail from a higher unregulated DC input, for relays, motors and 12 V accessories. It needs headroom above 12 V at the input and a heatsink at higher loads.

Frequently asked questions
What input voltage is needed for a stable 12 V output?
Linear 78xx-type regulators need an input at least about 2 V higher than the output, so use a supply of roughly 14.5 V or more for a clean 12 V output, and check the datasheet for the maximum input.
Is 78M12 the same as the 7812 in a TO-220 case?
Not exactly. The 78M series is the lower-current version, rated around 500 mA, while the standard 78xx series is rated around 1 A. Both give 12 V output, so match the current rating to your load.
