About this product

The RUEF400 is a 30V, 4A radial-leaded resettable PPTC (PolySwitch) fuse for through-hole mounting. It limits current during an overcurrent fault and resets automatically once the fault is removed and the device cools. It suits protecting low-voltage PCB circuits, sensors and peripherals.

How does this PTC fuse protect a circuit?

It is wired in series with the load. Under normal current its resistance is low. If current stays above its 4A rating, it heats up, its resistance rises sharply and limits the current. After the fault is removed and the device cools, it returns to low resistance automatically. It reacts more slowly than a glass fuse, so it is not a substitute for fast short-circuit protection.

Can I use it on a 12V or 24V circuit?

Yes, as long as the circuit voltage does not exceed its 30V rating. Choose a current rating above the normal operating current of your load, because a rating that is too low may trip during normal operation.
