Frequently asked questions
Does the RP2040 have internal program flash?
No. The RP2040 needs an external QSPI flash chip, supporting up to 16 MB, to store its firmware. Most development boards include one.
How is firmware loaded onto the chip?
The chip has a permanent ROM USB UF2 bootloader. Hold the BOOTSEL button while connecting USB to expose a drive, then copy a UF2 file to it. No external programmer is required for this method.
