Does this laser module need a special driver?
Yes. Laser diodes must be powered from a constant-current or current-limited driver. Connecting them directly to a fixed voltage supply can destroy the diode.
What safety precautions should I follow?
A 50 mW laser can cause serious eye injury, including from reflections. Use laser safety glasses, never aim the beam at people or animals, and keep it mounted at a stable height with a controlled beam path.
