About this product

PCF8574T is an 8-bit remote I/O expander that adds up to eight general-purpose input/output pins to a microcontroller over the I2C bus. Up to eight devices can share one bus, providing up to 64 extra I/O ports. It is commonly used to drive LEDs and relays or read switches on Arduino, ESP32 and other I2C-capable boards.

Frequently asked questions

How do I wire it to an Arduino or ESP32?

Connect SDA and SCL to the board's I2C pins, VDD to the supply and VSS to ground. The address pins A0 to A2 set the device address, which ranges from 0x20 to 0x27 for the PCF8574. Add pull-up resistors of about 4.7kΩ on SDA and SCL if your module does not include them.

Can it run on 3.3V or 5V logic?

The listed working voltage is 2.5V to 6V, so it works with both 3.3V and 5V systems. Tie the pull-up resistors to the same logic voltage as your microcontroller. Note that the PCF8574A variant uses a different address range (0x38 to 0x3F), so check the suffix.
