About this product
This optical flow sensor works on the same principle as an optical mouse. It captures many frames per second of a surface and uses image processing to calculate displacement. It returns the average movement in the X and Y directions, which suits position measurement and odometry in robots and motion tracking projects.
Specifications
- Measurement principle
- Optical flow (image sensor)
- Output
- Average movement on X and Y axes
- Scaling
- Raw values are scaled (see module documentation)
Frequently asked questions
How do I interpret the sensor readings?
The readings are averaged surface movement, not a direct distance in centimeters. A single pixel of movement does not return 1; it returns a scaled value. Use the scaler described in the module documentation to convert the readings into real displacement.
How do I wire this sensor?
Wiring depends on the specific module, so check its connections page for the pinout, interface and supply voltage before you connect it. Power it only at the voltage the board specifies, and keep the sensor facing the surface it measures.
