About this product

A physics learning kit that measures object speed with two IR obstacle sensors placed at a known distance. The Arduino Uno times the gap between the two gates in microseconds using micros() and shows the calculated speed on a TM1637 display. This expansion version includes the sensors, breadboard and display but not the Arduino board or USB cable.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to buy an Arduino board with this expansion kit?

Yes. The expansion version does not include an Arduino board or USB cable. It is built around the Arduino Uno, so you need an Uno or a compatible board with a USB cable to upload the code.

How is the speed calculated with the two IR sensors?

Speed equals the known distance between the two sensors divided by the time between the two detections. The Arduino measures that time with micros(), so the distance between the gates must be measured accurately for correct results.
