About this product
Bare 16-pin male OBD-II (SAE J1962) diagnostic plug with its shell, used to build custom diagnostic readers and interface cables for vehicle engine control units. OBD-II gives access to engine and vehicle data through a standard connector, usually located under the dashboard on the driver side. Because it is a bare connector, wiring and protocol logic must be built by the user.

Frequently asked questions
Which pins are used for power and CAN?
On OBD-II connectors, pin 16 is battery positive, pins 4 and 5 are chassis and signal ground, and pins 6 and 14 are CAN high and CAN low on vehicles that use CAN. Verify the pinout for your vehicle before connecting.
Will it work with any car?
Most cars sold since the late 1990s have an OBD-II port, but the communication protocol varies (CAN, ISO 9141, KWP2000 or J1850). Identify your car's protocol before building a reader.
