Which stepper driver should I use with the 17HS8401?
Use a bipolar stepper driver such as A4988, DRV8825 or TMC2209 that can supply 1.7 A per phase. Set the driver's current limit at or slightly below the motor's rated current, and use cooling for the driver if it runs warm.
How do I identify the coils on the 4 leads?
Measure resistance between the wires with a multimeter. The two wires that show continuity form one coil, and the other two form the second coil. Keep the connections of each coil together before wiring them to the driver's A and B outputs.
