Can I charge a battery directly with this cell?
Direct connection is not recommended, because the output changes with light and a battery can be overcharged or draw current back at night. Use a charge controller or at least a blocking diode between the cell and the battery.
Why is the output lower than the rated values?
The rated 5 V and 100 mA apply at the maximum power point under good light. Shade, indoor light, angled sunlight or a cloudy sky reduce the output.
