LNK364PN is a LinkSwitch-XT offline flyback switcher IC that integrates a 700 V power MOSFET, oscillator, control and protection circuitry in a single 8-pin DIP package. It is used to build compact, isolated AC-DC flyback power supplies for appliances, chargers and standby supplies. A flyback transformer and external components are required.

Can I connect it directly to mains?
It is an offline device designed for rectified mains through a flyback transformer, so the circuit operates at high voltage. Only experienced designers should build it, using proper fusing, isolation, creepage spacing and safety testing before any connection to mains.
Does it need a separate bias winding on the transformer?
No. According to the LinkSwitch-XT design, the IC is self-biased from the DRAIN pin during start-up and operation, which removes the need for a bias winding and its associated circuitry.
