About this product
The LM2576-5 is a fixed 5 V step-down (buck) switching regulator rated for 3 A output. It converts a higher DC input of up to 40 V into a stable 5 V with far less heat than a linear regulator, suitable for powering microcontroller boards and modules.

Frequently asked questions
What external parts does the LM2576-5 need?
It needs an external inductor, a Schottky catch diode, and input and output capacitors as specified in the datasheet. Without the catch diode, the circuit will not operate as a buck converter.
Can it replace a 7805 regulator?
For producing 5 V from a higher input, yes, and it runs much cooler at high current. Its switching output has more noise than a linear regulator, so add filtering for sensitive analog circuits.
