What is the difference between the insulation and continuity tests?
The insulation test applies a high DC test voltage (250 V to 1000 V) to measure leakage resistance between conductors. The continuity test uses a low voltage and current to measure small resistances, such as a cable or wire path.
Should the circuit be de-energized before an insulation test?
Yes. Always disconnect the power and isolate the circuit under test before an insulation measurement, and make sure the circuit is discharged before connecting the leads.
