How do I drive it from a microcontroller?
A microcontroller pin cannot safely supply 300 mA. Switch the coil from the 12 V supply with a logic-level MOSFET or transistor, and place a flyback diode across the coil to protect the driver.
Can it run from 5 V?
It is rated for 12 VDC. Running it at a lower voltage may not produce reliable actuation, so use the rated 12 VDC supply.
