Frequently asked questions
Can I drive it directly from an Arduino pin?
Yes, because it is logic-level. Add a series gate resistor of around 100 Ω to 220 Ω and a pull-down resistor of about 10 kΩ from gate to source so the MOSFET stays off during power-up.
Does it need a heatsink?
At high currents, yes. Power loss is I² × RDS(on); for example, 10 A gives about 2.2 W, which needs a heatsink for continuous operation. Pin order on TO-220 is Gate, Drain, Source, so check the orientation before wiring.
