Frequently asked questions
Can I drive it directly from a 3.3V or 5V microcontroller?
Logic-level MOSFETs turn on at lower gate voltages than standard types, but the specified low on-resistance applies only at a particular gate voltage. Check the datasheet's RDS(on) versus VGS curve. For high-current loads, a dedicated gate driver is usually safer than driving the gate directly from a 3.3V pin.
What protection does a DC motor load need with this MOSFET?
Place a flyback diode across an inductive motor, add a gate resistor and a gate pull-down resistor, and make sure the source and the load share a common ground with the controller.
