A high-voltage, high-speed gate driver IC that drives a high-side and a low-side power MOSFET or IGBT in a half-bridge configuration. It converts low-level logic signals from a microcontroller into the gate drive needed to switch power devices quickly. It is used in inverters, motor drives and switch-mode power designs.

Frequently asked questions
Does the IR2184 need a bootstrap circuit?
Yes. The high-side output is powered through a bootstrap capacitor and diode connected between VCC and the floating supply pin. Size the capacitor for the switching frequency and gate charge of your MOSFET or IGBT.
Can I drive its inputs directly from a microcontroller?
Yes, the logic inputs are designed to be driven from standard microcontroller logic levels. Confirm the input threshold in the datasheet and add dead-time in your firmware to prevent both switches conducting at once.
