Frequently asked questions
How far away can I measure and still get an accurate reading?
With a 10:1 ratio, the measured spot is one-tenth of the distance to the target. At 1 m the spot is about 10 cm across, so make sure the target is larger than the spot.
Why can shiny metal surfaces give inaccurate readings?
Infrared thermometers measure emitted infrared energy. Shiny or reflective surfaces emit less and reflect surrounding energy, so readings can be inaccurate. Using a matte surface or tape on the target improves results.
