About this product
A simple science kit for learning the difference between conductors and insulators. A 9 V battery, a green LED, a 1 kΩ resistor and two alligator-clip probes form a closed circuit: if the LED lights when the probes touch a material, that material conducts electricity. Children test everyday items and record the results in a table.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a material is a conductor?
If the green LED lights when the probes touch both ends of the material, the circuit is closed and the material conducts. If the LED stays off, the material is an insulator.
Why is there a 1 kΩ resistor in the circuit?
The resistor limits the current flowing through the LED, which protects the LED from excess current.
