About this product
Add-on kit for a smart piggy bank that counts coins as they pass the slot. An IR sensor mounted beside the slot detects each coin, and the counter increases each time a coin breaks the beam. The count is saved in the Arduino's EEPROM, so it remains after power is removed. The kit counts coins only and cannot identify their value.

Frequently asked questions
Why does edge detection matter in this project?
A coin held in the beam would keep the sensor in the same state and be counted repeatedly. Edge detection makes the sketch count only the moment the beam changes, so each coin is counted once.
Can the counter tell different coin values apart?
No. The project counts coins as they pass the sensor and does not identify their denominations, as the listing states.
